Story Summary:

Backgammon lived in the poor town of Blackfall all his life. However, his life was far from normal. Backgammon was the child of two great, powerful dark sorcerers. Sorcerers whose power was considered legendary. They all lived in a massive tower on a very high hill overshadowing the town.

Backgammon didn't just love his parents. He worshipped them. They would always tell him stories of their past adventures and deed, teach him everything they knew about magic, and trained him in his poison element. Eventually, Backgammon mastered his element to the point that it changed from poison to haze. Idolizing his parents, dreaming of becoming a legendary sorcerer like them, and enjoying spending time with and caring for his friends and neighbors of Blackfall, Backgammon was truly happy with his life.

However, his happiness would soon come to an end in the most horrendous, tragic way.

One day, Backgammon wandered away from the town while playing with his friends. He was then found and captured by Bestowers and taken to the city of Edona, a place his parents told horrific stories about.

The Bestowers attempted to weaken Backgammon's spirit, but he fought and defied them with all his might. For his actions, he was sentenced to be tortured. For several years Backgammon was subjected to horrendous abuse and cruelty. His neck was rarely freed from a shackle. Despite the suffering, Backgammon was determined not to lose his spirit. No matter how much the Bestowers tried to break him, he remained strong and courageous.

One day, a thunderstorm  befell the city of Edona. This wasn't meant to happen as the Terrazar always kept the weather pleasant and perfect. Panic and confusion ran through the city, and Backgammon knew his chance to escape had come. Breaking from his shackles, with the neck shackle still on and only breaking the chain. Backgammon broke out of the dungeon with his magic and ran through the city streets, following the sound of thunder as a guide to freedom and returning home. Somehow he made it out of the city, and using his haze element, he destroyed every trap that tried to snare and devour him.

Finally, he made it out of the spiritless territory. Finally, after all these years, Backgammon was finally free. He could go home to his home, family, and friends. Exhausted, but filled with joy, Backgammon began the long journey back to Blackfall. He was filled with relief that the nightmare was finally over.

Sadly, though his nightmare ended, he had no idea his life would never be the same again. Seeing Blackfall in the distance, Backgammon rushed towards it, eager to see his loved ones again. However, he was met with a scene of complete, unbearable shock and horror. Blackfall had been destroyed, and the dead bodies of his friends and neighbors lay scattered on the ground. Even worse, his family's tower was in crumbling ruins. Backgammon hurried to the tower to check on his parents. To his utter and heartbreaking shock, he found his parents dead under the tower's rubble. Backgammon was absolutely devastated. After years of torment and suffering at the hands of merciless, spiritless freaks, he found everything he held dear to him gone. Backgammon knew it must have been the Bestowers who did this. No other warriors of Rown were powerful enough to defeat his parents. With nothing left to do but mourn, Backgammon went to work burying the bodies of his loved ones around the town. The least he could do was give them a proper burial. After the bodies were buried and the gravestones were placed, Backgammon was lost in spirit breaking sorrow. Lost in the loss he suffered. He felt his life was over.

However, that all changed when he discovered a staff among the rubble of his ruined tower. One of his father's staffs. Memories of the stories his parents told him of their deeds and power returned. It was then Backgammon decided on a brand new purpose. He swore on his life to one day become a legendary sorcerer like his parents. With this newfound goal, the will to live returned to Backgammon. He rebuilt his tower, trained hard in his abilities, and indeed grew incredibly powerful. He is now known throughout the land as The Lost Sorcerer.

Powers and Abilities:

Backgammon's main, most prominent skill is his magic, which allows him to cast various spells and manipulate his element. From invisibility, to minor telekinesis, to magical attack and defense spells like force fields and hypnotic lights.

His haze element is a variation of poison that is more gas than liquid and can be wielded much like wind. Backgammon can summon slicing vapor attacks, gust blasts, and even small tornadoes. The attacks are toxic and cause poisonous burns, suffocation, and fatigue. Backgammon's magic can manipulate haze to the point where it can take the form of birds to attacks enemies in swarms.

One of Backgammon's most well known powers is his command over black birds like crows, ravens, and magpies. All black birds view Backgammon as their master and always do his bidding. He often has them observe others and uses his magic to see and hear what the birds see and hear. It is a masterful skill his father used with insects. Backgammon can even order birds to attack or distract foes. He also has a loyal obsidian eagle pet named Screechar.

Backgammon's eyes are infused with so much magic they glow whenever his emotions are strong. The magic allows him to see in total darkness, stop foes in their tracks with a magical glare, and see through solid objects. Backgammon is still developing these powers with his eyes and rarely uses them in real battles or serious scenarios.

Backgammon is an expert in crafting potions. It is a hobby as well as a profession of his and he often sells high quality potions to the best buyers. Healing potions are one of his specialties, but he can craft a variety of them. Invisibility, calming serum, minor clairvoyance, night vision, and illness cures are just a few examples of what he is capable of crafting.

Whenever Backgammon's emotions reach a high, volatile point, which rarely happens, he can summon intimidating forces such as darkness, an echoed voice, and eerie winds. This is due to his incredibly strong magic. This is mainly meant to intimidate others.

Personality:

Most of the time, in normal scenarios, Backgammon can be quite confident, sly, and cool. However, whenever he is reminded of the pain and loss he suffered, he shows the true inner sadness that gives him his star name "The Lost Sorcerer." Though Backgammon says he found happiness with his purpose in life and his 'friendship' with the black birds, deep down his spirit still trembles with inner despair.

Despite this, Backgammon is strong willed and is more than willing to help those in need. However, he can sometimes be a bit mischievous, resorting to unorthodox methods of helping others and being a bit arrogant about it. He also loves praise, attention, and recognition as it makes him think he's truly becoming like his parents.

Due to the painful losses of his loved ones, Backgammon has a strong desire for companionship. However, he does not show it very much. Often choosing to be in the solitude of his ruined town, many people view him as a mysterious recluse. However, should anyone be brave enough to come to his tower with no intention to fight or do harm to him or his ruined town, chances are Backgammon will be happy to tell the story of his life, play some board games, and treat them like a friend.

Though he is calm and impish in ordinary scenarios, whenever things get serious, Backgammon will fully focus and not back down or fail.

Other info:

Backgammon is named after a popular board game that has existed for thousands of years. His parents loved the game and he is really good at it.

Backgammon's parents were quite old when they had him. Around their late 40s. They had also long retired from adventuring, so their powers had calmed considerably during his lifetime.

Backgammon's horns are slightly smaller than a normal male naturman. This is likely due to the abuse he suffered from the Bestowers.

The rusted metal chained collar Backgammon wears around his neck is from when he was imprisoned in Edona. He decided to wear it to remind himself of conquering the greatest challenge of his life.
