Story Summary:
Zarkross was born into a very poor family living at the border of Vorika. Shortly after his mom gave birth to his egg, she died. Zarkross's three older brothers blamed him for their mother's death and tormented him ever since he was only three years old. Zarkross's father was too busy working days and nights to provide for them. Zarkross grew to be a cold, pessimistic, angry, solemn person.
As Zarkross got older and stronger, he began to defend himself from his brothers' abuse. His lightning powers and physical strength improved incredibly over the years. He also discovered his white eyes held clairvoyant powers, allowing him to see visions of the past and future through the eyes of others. This was often triggered through eye contact.
One day, at the age of 14, Zarkross's brothers were more abusive towards him than usual due to it being the anniversary of their mom's death. When Zarkross's eldest brother told him their mom must want him dead, too, Zakross snapped and attacked his brothers with a fury of lightning and claws. His brothers lay injured on the ground and when their father showed up, he angrily slashed Zarkross on the face. Zarkross became so enraged by his father hurting him that he flew away, never to return.
Zarkross spent the next few years as a rogue who had to steal to survive. With no home, friends, or family beside him, Zarkross was more alone than most ever could be. This made him a cold, pessimistic, solemn person who believed life was cruel and survival was all that he could hope for.
One day, Zarkross went to Ruleroar, where a heroes festival was being held. Zarkross saw a valuable looking artifact on display and decided to steal it. It turned out the artifact belonged to Skydan's father. Skydan saw Zarkross with the artifact and tried to get it back. In the struggle, Zarkross dropped the artifact, causing it to break. Skydan became enraged and viciously attacked Zarkross, leaving him with a massive gash in his abdomen. As Zarkross bled out, he looked Skydan in the eyes and had a vision of Ruleroar being destroyed while someone breathed fire in all directions. Zarkross believed he witnessed Skydan destroying Ruleroar. He then lost consciousness from blood loss. He later woke up in the hospital and fled the city.
After learning who Skydan was, Zarkross believed he would become evil one day like many other prophecy beings. This made them bitter enemies and whenever they encountered each other, they would fight. Zarkross is out to prove Skydan will become evil one day and plans to defeat him when that time comes. Skydan is angered by this and is determined to prove him wrong.
Powers and Abilities:
Zarkross wields violet lightning, a rare variant of the lightning element. He practiced and trained in it all his life. Though he is self taught, his power and skills can be described as brutal. Like all lightning dragonman, he produces electricity from his body. However, there are some times when he is capable of breathing it. Zarkross's lightning is so powerful it can paralyze and ward off large beasts in only a few attacks. It is also capable of shattering crystals in a single bolt. His skills are incredible as well. Zarkross can unleash massive electrical shockwaves when severely enraged. He can also throw his opponents with his lightning with extreme static.
Zarkross's physical strength may be around average, but his toughness is not. His ability to endure attacks is much stronger than most others. This is likely due to his brothers' horrendous abuse. He can fight through pain and battle without much hinderance despite being bruised and cut all over his body.
One thing that makes Zarkross's flying special is his ability to fly well in harsh conditions. Zarkross can fly in pouring rain, strong winds, and still air just as effectively as in perfect conditions. This can lead to advantages in battles and chases in such scenarios.
A special ability Zarkross has that not many others do is clairvoyance. His white eyes are a symbol of it. By looking into a living being's eyes, Zarkross will sometimes see a vision of the past or future seen by that being. However, he cannot control when these visions occur and he often does not understand the meanings behind them. So, when he usually has a vision, he must rely on his own judgement to understand what he witnessed. This could sometimes lead to misunderstandings.
Personality:
Zarkross is a cold, solemn, angry person who has a very pessimistic outlook on life. Due to abuse from his older brothers and neglect from his father, he believed his existence was insignificant. Still, he strives to survive and is a very strong fighter. Since he believes happiness is a hopeless wish, he doesn't care much about his actions or words or if he hurts others.
Despite his solemn, unfeeling nature, Zarkross despises evil and whenever it confronts him, he's willing to fight against it, which is why he hates Skydan so much. Though Zarkross is not evil, he also despises people who are considered heroes. The mere mention of heroes makes Zarkross sick. The reason for this is not what most people think. Zarkross feels this way because he believes heroes don't truly exist. They are merely people who fight to do what they believe is right. Since he believes right and wrong don't matter much unless they're severely costly, he thinks those who are called heroes are nothing more than hypocrites who don't deserve special treatment for their actions. Zarkross's view of heroes is clouded by jealousy of the recognition they receive. This is one reason why he hates Skydan. He is unaware of his own jealousy, though, due to his pessimistic beliefs.
Zarkross has a hatred of people stronger than him. This is another reason why he hates Skydan. No matter how much stronger they are, though, he never hesitates to fight them when needed. His courage could sometimes make him reckless. No sense of fear often leads to danger, and it might for Zarkross.
Though many think otherwise, Zarkross is not evil and never commits truly heinous acts. His main unlawful action is stealing. If he's pursued by people looking to hurt or capture him, he'd fight, but not kill. Zarkross is never willing to kill unless it is absolutely necessary, and that never happens. He never hurts anyone unless they're intent on hurting him, with the exception of Skydan, who he regularly attacks first.
Extra Facts:
Zarkross's wing markings, lavender horn tips, and claws are bioluminescent and can be seen in darkness. They glow brighter if his emotions run high, like when he's angry.
The majority of Zarkross's scars are from his brothers' abuse. The scar on his face was from his father. He also has a very large scar on his stomach from when Skydan attacked him when they first met.
Zarkross enjoys walking and flying in thunderstorms and pouring rain. It soothes his mind and gives him brief feelings of peace.
Zarkross dresses in the same fashion style as Skydan. The Lorstar equivalent of punk fashion. Vest, torn clothes, and a lot of jewelry.
